Library Liaison Program

Purpose:

In keeping with the Ethel K. Smith Library’s mission to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the university, the purpose of the Library Liaison Program is to foster communication between the library staff and the university’s academic programs.

Goals:

Library Liaisons are assigned to specific academic departments / programs to:

  • Provide a more personalized level of service
  • Share information about library services, programs, and resources
  • Identify user interests and needs
  • Obtain input on issues that affect the library and library services
  • Collaborate with faculty on analyzing library collections

Liaison Services

Services:

Library Liaison activities could include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Keeping faculty informed of new services or changes to existing services
  • Orienting new faculty to library policies and resources
  • Reviewing library holdings in preparation for new course proposals and for upcoming assignment resources
  • Assisting with collection development for both acquisitions and weeding
  • Meeting with departments or departmental representatives to facilitate communication
  • Collaborating with faculty on content for web portals and guides
  • Consulting with departments to learn about specific needs for Honors students, Summer research, etc.
