Term Paper Triage
Feeling sick about your upcoming term paper?
Make an appointment for Term Paper Triage!
Sign up for one of the EKS Library/Writing Center Term Paper Triage sessions and we'll diagnose some common problems and prescribe a course of treatment to help you improve your paper. Be sure to bring the assignment sheet or writing prompt from your professor along with copies of any source material and rough drafts you may have, otherwise we will not be able to admit you to the workshop. All sessions will take place in the Library Computer Lab next to the Ethel K. Café on the first floor of the Library.
Writing Center diagnostics:
- Thesis evaluation
- Do you have a clear thesis statement?
- Evidence assessment
- Do you have enough evidence to support your thesis?
- Source material integration
- Have you seamlessly integrated your source material into your paper?
Reference Librarian diagnostics:
- Source material analysis
- Do you have the appropriate number and types of sources required by your assignment?
- Do you need help finding these sources?
- Sources cited alignment
- Are all the sources listed on your works cited page cited in your paper and are all the sources cited in your paper listed on your works cited page?
- Citation style screening
- Have you used the appropriate style guide to format your citations?
Once we've done triage to catch basic errors, we may refer you to a specialist for an individual follow-up appointment with a Writing Center tutor or Reference Librarian.
Workshop time constraints will not allow for:
- Discussing the project without the assignment or writing prompt
- "Fixing" the paper (e.g., correcting grammar)
- Making comments on content
- Proofreading the entire paper
You must sign up in advance and you must bring the assignment sheet or writing prompt from your professor along with copies of any source material and rough drafts you may have, otherwise we will not be able to admit you to the workshop. All sessions will take place in the Library Computer Lab next to the Ethel K. Café on the first floor of the Library.
