Friends of the Ethel K. Smith Library  

Dear Friends of the Library,

I am so pleased to serve as chair of the 2011-2012 Friends of the Library (FOL) Board.  We on the FOL Board look foward to a year full of activities and programs that will showcase books and writers, and provide more opportunities for Friends of Library to share our enthusiasm for literature.

Our first event, at noon on September 20, 2011, is a luncheon and exclusive book signing in the LaVerne Dining Hall.  It is part fo the Wingate Reading Experience (WiRE) and co-hosted by the Wingate University Board of Visitors. Our guest speaker will be Laila Lalami, author of Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits, a gripping and beautiful novel about the Muslim immigrant experience.

For October, we are in the process of planning a delightfully "spooky" Library experience when the FOL Boad will partner with the Union County Public Library and the Big Read program.  More to follow ...

There will be so much more to come and we'll be telling you all about it and looking forward to seeing you as the year goes on.
